1. Excellence. God wants us, as Christians, to excel at whatever we do to the best of our ability. Too often Christians rationalize that it is somehow in God’s plan to be second best. Thus they always hang back, never really achieving their potential for fear others will think them egotistical. A Christian can excel at whatever he does without egotism. Paul excelled without being egotistical; Simon Peter excelled, though he remained a humble man. Each knew his source of power, each knew what God had asked him to do, and each would accept nothing less than excellence. We also should expect excellence as part of our short-range goals. First Peter 4:11 says, “Whoever speaks, let him speak, as if it were, the utterances of God; whoever serves, let him do so as by the strength that God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ . . . .” We are to use our abilities to God’s glory. It is equally important that wives and mothers excel at what they do. Usually the mother becomes the “habit” teacher in the home; her attitudes are generally reflected by her children. If she excels at what she does and keeps the home well organized, she can be a great asset to home financial planning. 2. Limit Credit. As previously mentioned, a part of short-range planning should be to limit or curtail the use of credit. If you are looking for God’s best plan, adopt a cash-only basis as much as possible.
